HOW TO SELL INSURANCE
It's Your Mission to Protect Your ClientsThere is no other message than that. Your job, role, mission as a travel agent is to protect your clients from all the nasty things that can possibly happen to them and their families when on vacation. You must think about protecting their holiday investment and many times protect them from themselves. They would be the ones that will state outright, "nothing will happen" - and the universe has a strange way of proving them wrong.
I often tell the story of my dearest Mum who came to visit me from the UK and who had a heart attack enroute in the plane. Long story short - she survived. Had insurance. Forty-thousand dollars later she's back in the UK safe and sound. However, during the process, I thought we were selling the house, the car etc, to pay for open heart surgery, and the $3,200 per day to be in intensive care. One thing is for sure, YOU do not want to be the travel agent who didn't sell travel insurance / coverage when all hell breaks loose. At the very least you could be sued, personally; you will lose sleep for a very long time and in todays world, your name and negligence will go viral! Take the time to read though the articles listed on the right. I've selected these from a collection of articles I have written about selling travel insurance and I hope they help you focus. For additional training you should contact your travel insurance provider and request to be on their next workshop. If you ever need a reason to sell travel insurance...From here on and for a good year or so, if your clients ever balk at purchasing travel insurance... mention the capsizing of the Costa cruise ship. You might even take this a step further and print off one those images and overlay with it - "Here's why we suggest you purchase travel insurance."
